How do you deal with conflict and disagreement? Are you an avoider or an agitator? Like it or not, conflict is a part of church life. In fact, the only part of church life that Jesus seemed to think was important to define was how the disciples navigated conflict (Matt. 18). In this two night course we will work together to identify what causes conflict and what we can do about it. Believe it or not, conflict is integral to faithful mission practice. We will look at some of the common causes of conflict in church, our own personal conflict style, as well seek to learn some tools for faithful disagreement and explore the power of dialogue as a means of navigating conflict. We will also look at some case studies and apply some of our learnings to real-world issues.
Key Outcomes
Identify and describe the causes of congregational conflict.
- Discover our own personal conflict style and how it relates to our leading others through conflict.
- Learn and apply some tools to navigate others through difficult situations of conflict and hard conversations.
- Explore the virtues of dialogue and conversation as a strategy to transform conflict into a tool of congregational vitality and thriving.
