Rev Dr Darryl Tempero

Lecturer/Ministry Formation Coordinator

Rev Dr Darryl Tempero

D Min (Fuller)

Darryl joined the KCML team in January 2021, seconded from Alpine Presbytery to provide management support during a significant period of institutional transition. He was appointed to the faculty in a half-time role in early 2023.

Prior to training, Darryl spent over a decade in the banking sector, with a particular focus on the administration and management of IT projects. His theological education includes study at Hillsong College (Sydney), a BMin from the Bible College of New Zealand (now Laidlaw College, Christchurch), and a PGDipMin from the University of Otago. In 2017, he was awarded a Doctor of Ministry with distinction from Fuller Theological Seminary. His doctoral research addressed themes of spiritual formation, ecclesiology, Celtic spirituality,  with his final project exploring a contextual church model for Aotearoa New Zealand aimed at cultivating discipleship and community. This research was informed by his practical experience in establishing and co-leading “Kiwi Church,” a new worshipping community begun in 2011, where he continues to be the half-time minister.

Darryl has been part of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ), participating in congregational leadership from his youth. Ordained in 2007, he has served in a range of regional and national leadership roles, including a decade as Resource Minister for Christchurch and subsequently Alpine Presbytery, before transitioning to his current role at KCML.

His academic and vocational interests lie in contextual theology, new expressions of church, worship, and mission in the Aotearoa New Zealand context. He also represents KCML on the Forge Aotearoa team, contributing to ongoing theological reflection and praxis in pioneering ministry and missional leadership.
