Adjunct lecturer for Pastoral Care and Christian Formation
Rev Nikki Watkin
B Social Work, B Divinity, M Min
I am the course Co-ordinator and primary lecturer for Pastoral Care, and from time to time will have others join me at block courses.
I have been involved in pastoral care in ministry since I was ordained in 1992, having previously completed a Bachelor of Social Work. I later completed my M Min at Otago. In this privileged position of walking alongside communities of faith, pastoral care has given me moments of both great joy and of deep despair. It will be important to explore the breadth of pastoral care in ministry.
Over the years, the landscape of ministry has changed significantly, whilst the basic skills remain the same. However basic the skills though, pastoral care skills are best honed with intentionality and humility. The better we listen the more we will hear. I am excited to work together with you in this part of your journey of becoming ministers who are able to journey well alongside the people as God intends.
